This workshop will introduce a range of sources which can be used to explore family history in Scottish records, starting with the main ScotlandsPeople records, including births, marriages, deaths and census records, and then exploring the potential of other records such as wills and testaments, valuation rolls, sasines and records held in local archives. The distinctive Scots legal, administrative, judicial and cultural context which generated these records will be discussed, and there will be opportunities to try out some of the online portals and support available, such as the knowledge base of the ‘Your Scottish Archives’ portal.
We are thrilled that Elspeth Reid will be presenting this workshop. Elspeth brings a wealth of expertise in Scottish genealogy, gained through decades of archival work and teaching in Scotland. Her deep understanding of Scotland’s unique historical records will help participants make the most of the sources available for researching their Scottish ancestors.
Note: This is an in-person, interactive session offered in partnership with the Guelph Public Library, 100 Norfork St.
There are no fees for this workshop; however, registration is required.
Registration will open approximately 6 weeks before the session.
