Mapleton Historical Society

The Mapleton Historical Society was established in November 2005. It is a group of dedicated individuals active in collecting, preserving and exhibiting materials of historical interest relating to Mapleton which consists of the historic townships of Peel and Maryborough in Wellington County. It includes the village of Alma, Drayton, and Moorefield.

 

Objectives

  • To encourage and stimulate interest in the history of Mapleton
  • To bring together people who are interested in the history of Mapleton
  • Encourage individuals to research, interpret and record the history of Mapleton
  • To hold informative meetings relating to the history of the townships of Peel and Maryborough
  • To identify local sites of interest
  • To co-operate with other historical societies and related organizations
  • Work with the Wellington County Museum & Archives in submitting historical information

Our Accomplishments:

  • Walking tours of Alma, Drayton and Moorefield
  • Walking tours of Cemeteries – Hollen, Glen Allan, Bethesda, Drayton (Victoria)
  • Identified all cemeteries in Mapleton
  • Researched and recorded land titles for village of Drayton
  • Reprinted and sold – A History of the Village of Drayton
  • Historic Plaque placed at cemeteries
  • Placed benches at cemeteries
  • Displays at Library and local Farm Shows
  • Host Annual General Meetings with informative speakers

 

Our research is passed on to the Wellington County Museum & Archives and is searchable under Collections and Research.
