Dennis Johnson began researching the Life of Arthur W. Cutten 35 years ago as part of a documentary drama project at Guelph Collegiate where he taught Dramatic Arts. A musical theatre production titled ‘BUZZ’ was the result. ‘BUZZ’ Cutten was born and educated in Guelph but in 1890 he emigrated to Chicago. Arthur Cutten and Al Capone were two of the most successful businessmen in Chicago in the 1920’s. There he became a speculator in grain futures, and by the 1920’s was “Wheat King” of his era. In 1927 he turned his attention to Wall Street where, for three years, he was acknowledged leader of the “Bull” faction at the New York Stock Exchange.
Join Dennis Johnson as he outlines his extensive research on the life and times of Arthur W. Cutten, one of Guelph’s wealthiest men. Cutten was one of two Guelphites to be featured on the cover of TIME magazine (Arthur Cutten (1928) and Edward Johnson (1936).
